US Imposes Visa Curbs On Indian Travel Agencies Linked To Illegal Immigration
India-West News Desk
WASHINGTON,DC – The U.S. Department of State announced May 19 that it is implementing visa restrictions on owners, executives, and senior officials of India-based travel agencies accused of facilitating illegal immigration to the United States.
In a statement, Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the U.S. Mission in India—through its Consular Affairs and Diplomatic Security Service—is actively working to identify individuals and networks involved in human smuggling, trafficking, and unauthorized migration schemes.
“We are committed to dismantling alien smuggling networks by holding accountable those who knowingly assist individuals in violating U.S. immigration laws,” Bruce said.
The visa restrictions are being imposed under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The policy applies globally and includes individuals who might otherwise qualify for the Visa Waiver Program, underscoring the broad reach of the enforcement action.
The move is part of a broader effort to uphold the rule of law, protect U.S. borders, and discourage unlawful migration. The Department continues to caution foreign nationals against the risks of illegal immigration and urges them to pursue legal avenues for travel and entry into the U.S.
