COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio Republican Vivek Ramaswamy has surged out of the gate in his bid for governor, raising a staggering $9.7 million in just four months — a sum that underscores his dominance early in the race and positions him as the clear frontrunner for the GOP nomination.
The biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate launched his gubernatorial campaign in late February and has since crisscrossed the state, headlining more than 50 fundraising events and amassing over 40,000 individual donors, according to his campaign. Notably, none of the nearly $10 million total includes personal contributions from Ramaswamy, who spent over $30 million of his own money during his 2024 presidential run.
“Grateful for the record-setting support, far greater than what was projected even last week. We’ll lead Ohio to greater heights,” the candidate said in a social media post.
The haul far outpaces previous fundraising benchmarks in Ohio gubernatorial politics. By comparison, Gov. Mike DeWine raised just $3 million in the first half of 2021 ahead of his reelection campaign.
“This historic fundraising milestone proves Ohioans are hungry for fresh leadership and bold ideas,” said campaign manager Jonathan Ewing in a statement. “The momentum we saw in the final days of the quarter was extraordinary and shows Vivek’s message is resonating across the state.”
Ramaswamy’s path to the Republican nomination grew significantly clearer after Attorney General Dave Yost exited the race in May, leaving him with little serious opposition nearly a year ahead of the primary.
Campaign finance reports covering the period through June 30 are due by the end of July. But with this early show of financial force, Ramaswamy is seen to be showing how strong he is in the race.
